Dear Swiss abroad in the US, dear friends of Switzerland,

We would like to invite you to join us in celebrating Swiss National Day right here online.

While it is difficult this year to gather in person for August 1 brunches and other festivities, we want to provide you with a little slice of Switzerland to ensure that you have a festive but safe National Day.

Be sure to return to this page on August 1 for our full program and please visit https://www.missione1agosto.org for an experience brought to you right from Switzerland and from other Swiss embassies and consulates around the world.

Don’t forget to use hashtag #SwissNationalDay to join in the fun and to share YOUR experiences. (Be sure to check out our Swiss National Day YouTube playlist while you’re at it.)

SWISS FILMS

The Divine Order (available to stream July 31-August 2)

Swiss National Day is certainly enough reason for celebration, but why not also celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in the U.S. by watching Petra Volpe’s The Divine Order? Set in a conservative Swiss town largely cut off from the spirit of the swinging 1960s, this feel-good film examines the fight for women’s suffrage in microcosm.

Heidi (available to stream July 31-August 7)

For the little ones who will be celebrating with you, we are excited to bring you another great Swiss film: Heidi! Heidi remains one of the most beloved children’s stories to this day, and this most recent cinematic adaptation from 2015 is a visual ode to the Swiss mountains, saturated with sweeping and lush landscapes of the Canton of Grisons. Its main message, “home is where the heart is,” is as important today as when it was first written.
